Isles of Capri Tailgating Picnic a Huge Success

People of all ages, and in all kinds of vehicles, tailgated around a perimeter of yellow caution tape on a recent Sunday so the infield could provide a picnic/party to raise money for the people on Isles of Capri hit by Hurricane Irma.

Thanks to the efforts and organization by Chuck Tabeling, there was music by Sowflo, a local favorite band whose reputation for great reggae is soaring. This group has a following! Of course, there was dancing in the perfect weather that, I’m sure, Chuck also ordered!

Motorcycles, cars and a plethora of golf carts jockeyed for parking, especially near the food and beverage areas. Old friends reunited, shared their stories of Irmageddon, devoured chicken wings, roasted pork sandwiches and coleslaw, accompanied by their own BYOB and laughter. Spectators cheered the lively corn hole game competition, while children ran around and made up their own games to play. Raffle tickets were sold, and some people who won donated their proceeds back to Isles of Capri.

New friends were made, and plans for the boat parade, house decorating contest and golf cart parade, as well as the upcoming bocce season, were discussed enthusiastically. I heard one Caprier say, “I’m going to best you this year, Jerry, bet on it!” The friendly competition is up and running!

The picnic and comradery were a wonderful prelude to the holidays on Isles of Capri, a community of fun-loving, generous neighbors who look out for each other with heart. Check out the photos and c’mon over to Capri for more fun in the future.
