The spirit of giving was evident on July 26 at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort as Rick Medwedeff, general manager and Chris Major, general manager of golf operations and Spirit to Serve chair, presented a check in the amount of $97,655.92 to the American Cancer Society (ACS). The funds were raised through various activities of the Marriott Relay For Life team, led by team captain Jaclyn Moser-Wilmet. These activities included a golf tournament held at Hammock Bay, as well as the fundraising efforts at the actual Relay For Life event. Held at Mackle Park on April 9, the 2016 Relay For Life of Marco Island was a celebration of life in the fight against cancer.
On hand at the check presentation were Marriott Executive Assistant Cathy Nelson, Relay For Life event chair; Kathy Cleeland, ACS managing director, community engagement; Katie Betz, ACS senior manager, Relay For Life; Lisa Honig, ACS senior manager, distinguished events; and Sue Olszak, ACS Marco Island community manager, Relay For Life.
In the Marriott tradition of their signature Spirit to Serve campaign, these funds will aid the American Cancer Society in cancer research, the development of clinical trials, advances in technology, and the patient support services of Reach to Recovery, Look Good Feel Better, Road to Recovery, and Hope Lodge.
The American Cancer Society is grateful for the efforts of the Marriott Relay For Life team. Their generous contribution will lead to a world with more birthdays and more celebrations of every kind. Their gift is a message of hope in the quest for a cure.
