Gerald “Gerry” Gibbons, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on May 4, 2021. He was a resident of Marco Island, Florida, for the past 25 years. Gerry was born in Williamsport, PA, on November 1, 1934. He was the son of the late Regina and Gerald Gibbons.
Gerry was preceded in death by the love of his life, Veronica Gibbons. The two had met as kids, remained childhood sweethearts, married, raised three children in Staten Island, NY, before building their retirement home here on Marco Island. Gerry’s love and admiration for the sea began as a child, compelling him to enlist in the Navy. Throughout his life, Gerry was an avid fisherman, either off the beaches of New York with his best friend Joe and eventually at the helm of his own boats with his family.
During his retirement years, he spent most of his time traveling and boating with his wife, friends and family. Gerry was a dedicated community advocate spending a lot of his time as a member of the Marco Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge member, an usher for San Marco Catholic Church and as a volunteer at the soup kitchen in Immokalee.
Gerry was truly gifted analytically. While working on Wall Street in his early 30’s with mainframes and IBM cards, he could envision a means to automate the current process. With his incredible mind and keen sense of business, Gerry established his own Consulting Firm in NYC, as a software developer for brokerage houses. His expertise, insight and staff were highly acclaimed, employed throughout Wall Street, with the majority of his career consulting for Merrill Lynch, before retiring in 1996.
He was the loving father of Kathy (Dr. James Lafferty), Gerald and Karen. Dear brother of the late Patricia Campagne and Veronica Civitanova. Cherished grandfather of Christopher, Michael, Kristen, Kaitlyn, Bryan, James, Kyle, Austen, Alexa and Kurt. Adored great-grandfather of Michael, Antonella, Beau and Mako. Gerry will always be remembered for his generous spirit and devotion to his family and friends.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 10:30 at San Marco Catholic Church, Marco Island, FL.
