Ruth Carol Sciarrino, age 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep January 28th, 2021, due to complications from congestive heart failure after a long, well-lived life. She was born November 17th, 1925, in the Bronx, New York to James and Nora Jones. Ruth had two children Patricia and Douglas, from her first marriage to Lee Crockett, who passed away in August 1962. Following his death, she became a school crossing guard for the Nassau County Police Department in Merrick, Long Island, New York for 18 years. It was there that Ruth met her longtime friend and love, Sal Sciarrino, to whom she was married for 55 wonderful years. After growing tired of the cold and looking for a change of pace, Ruth and Sal chose to retire and move to Marco Island, Florida in 1980.
Following her marriage to Sal, Ruth converted to Roman Catholicism and was a devoted member of the San Marco Catholic Church and the Columbiettes. Ruth took pride in the Catholic faith and being of service to others who needed it the most. Ruth did what was right and good for all. She was kind and helped others any way she could. She will be remembered for her warm personality, gorgeous smile, and for being a genuine friend to all. Ruth also found great joy in her beloved Maltese puppy named ‘Sammy.’
Ruth was predeceased by her first husband, Lee Crockett, her sister, Kay Britton, her son, Douglas Crockett, and her grandson, Paul Donovan. Ruth is survived by her daughter Patricia Donovan and husband Paul, her nephew Bob Britton, her three grandchildren, Laura Janicek, Douglas Donovan, and Mary Pribyl, and her ten great-grandchildren.
Ruth lived a long and happy life with Sal. She will be missed tremendously by the Marco Island community.
