Don York, 85, of Naples passed away on March 19, 2021. After fighting many health battles, he succumbed to cancer peacefully and without pain.
Born in England on September 10, 1935, Don immigrated to the U.S. at age 14. Becoming a U.S. citizen was one of Don’s greatest honors. His patriotism was endless. Don believed in paying forward all the opportunities and freedoms this country had given him. Giving and kindness to others gave him the utmost joy.
Don was a prominent banker in Indiana and Florida. Starting six community banks in Naples and Marco, Don helped many achieve their financial success and dreams.
Collier County benefited from Don’s extensive community involvement over the last 36 years. He served on the following: Cleveland Clinic and Physicians Regional Boards, Forum Club, Rotary, Collier Tourism Commission, Chamber of Commerce, Sheriff’s Commission, Naples Conservancy, Leadership Collier, Leadership Florida, Immokalee Childcare, Collier School Board, and many others.
Those close to Don enjoyed his wonderful voice. As a 60-year SPEBSOSA member and bass singer, he took pride in his barbershop quartet placing 4th internationally.
Don will be forever cherished and missed by his wife Sally, sons David, Don and Dan, daughters Donna and Tamara, grandchildren Garrett, Jacob, Lucas, Lilly, Caitlin, Sophie, Logan, Kahne, Sophia and Grant, sisters Cynthia and Kyra, and his countless friends. He loved you all.
A private remembrance will be held.
