Getting Ready to ‘Light Up For Christmas’

The 2018 Decorating Committee recently met at the Esplanade to celebrate their annual Christmas in July and prepare for this year’s Christmas House and Business Decorating Contest.

Committee Co-Chairs Dave and Jeanne Rice have announced the schedule for this year’s event.

Preliminary Judging will begin on December 10 and 11 from 6:30 to 9 PM.

For the House Decorating Contest, Marco Island will be divided into nine zones. Judging teams will select the top contenders by visiting every street on the island. For the Business Decorating Contest, the island will be divided in half and judged by all exterior decorations.

The top 10 decorated homes will be selected on December 12 from 6 to 9 PM. The Finals will be held on December 14, with the judges traveling to the top 10 homes via trolley, followed by the traditional parade of cars for those wishing an early preview of the top contenders. The judges will leave from Centennial Bank’s parking area at 6:30 PM. Those wishing to join in the parade are invited.

Said Rice, “We expect to judge over 2,000 homes and some 200+ businesses this year as the community ‘Lights Up For Christmas.’”
