Four “Home Galleries” Featured Art at Home Exhibits

It was not your same old art exhibit! Art at Home featured 15 local artists representing a wide variety of media displaying their works in the intimate setting of four island residents or “Home Galleries.”

It was the perfect weekend experience for those gearing up for the holiday season. The exhibits offered gifts that are one of a kind, handcrafted objects and gifts that reflect the creativity of artists living right here in the community.

Most of the 15 featured local artists also exhibit their artwork at the local galleries such as the Center for the Arts and Local Color Art Gallery—just in case you missed the opportunity of the weekend exhibit. Much of the artwork depict local wildlife such as the burrowing owls, sea turtles and the vibrant colors of our sunset; photographs, jewelry, fabric art and even art from commonly found objects.

Barbara Parisi’s Ori-Me jewelry is inspired by Japanese folds, found objects and textures and each piece had its own story and is also available at the Center for the Arts Gift Gallery.

Clay was also very popular from traditional, contemporary, funky decorative to functional teapots and rice bowls. As Janet DeAnna said, “These would be one of a kind gifts for that one of a kind person.” DeAnna was joined by Nancy Norman, who is a potter, and Sandy Moore Howe, another distinguished clay artist.

Cheryl Costley’s fiber art and art quilts were on display along with Carolyn Burger’s paintings reflecting actual wildlife, flora and fauna of Marco Island.

New to Burger’s collection is her decorative pillows which can be customized using photographs and paintings.

In case you missed the Art at Home Exhibit, here is a list of the artists who participated in the afternoon tour. Karen Swanker, Barbara Parisi, Sandy Moore Howe, Carolyn Burger, Janet DeAnna, Judy Wittwer, Tara O’Neill, Cheryl Costley, Nancy Norman, Hal Schillreff, Jim Freeman, JoAnn Sanborn, Joseph Parisi, Billie Granneman and Judy Chinski.
