Flotilla 95 Celebrates

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 95, gathered on the evening of May 15th for an evening cruise, celebrating a successful season of servicing. Gathered aboard the Good Fortune II, The Conservancy of Southwest Florida’s cruising vessel, the excursion was Captained by Arne Kelsey of both the Conservancy and Flotilla 95.

The sunset cruise included great food, fellowship and facts about the Southwest Florida ecosystem. On one of its last tours for the season, the Good Fortune II left out of Shell Island Road, depositing into Henderson Creek. The three-hour ride cruised along the outskirts of Marco and along Keewaydin Island. Members of the Auxiliary witnessed osprey, wading birds, pelicans and dolphins in their natural habitat.

Captain Kelsey doubled as a naturalist, explaining the surroundings. From the mangrove root systems, to the habits of Bald Eagles to the FWC sea turtle program at Keewaydin Island information was anything but scarce.

As the Good Fortune II and the Coast Guard Auxiliary wind down for the summer, the evening was a great way to celebrate another successful season of teaching water safety and conservation.
