Boaters have more fun! Join the annual Marco Island Sail & Power Squadron’s (MISPS) annual Wine and Hors d’oeuvres Party on Friday, January 27, 2017 to find out why. Held at the San Marco Catholic Church Parish Center, the fundraiser takes place from 5 to 7:30 PM. Everyone is invited for great food and fine wine while contributing to a good cause. Tickets are $25 per person purchased in advance or $30 per person at the door. To order tickets in advance, contact Gene Burson at 239-945-1775 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The annual Wine and Hors d’oeuvres Party is the Marco Island Sail & Power Squadron’s only fundraiser. All of the money raised is used to sponsor boating and safety events, ongoing boater safety and education classes, and free vessel safety checks. There will be a Vessel Safety Check (VSC) table where Tom Ryan, VSC chairperson, will help to make arrangements tohave boats inspected for free. There will be a membership table where Dorothy Harkness, membership chairperson, will take applications to join the group at a discounted rate for the first year.
The MISPS emcee, Commander Bill Hughes, will be center stage at the event to announce winning tickets for raffle prizes, high bidders for the silent auction, the $250 door prize and the two 50/50 drawings for amounts determined by the number of tickets sold.
Party goers can expect to feast on a bountiful assortment of fabulous foods from shrimp platters and pizza to antipastos and dips. Great desserts will be displayed on separate tables with coffee service arranged by kitchen and dining room chairpersons, Pat Mogan and Sheila Thieme, and members of their committees. The party’s food tables will be colorfully decorated with a nautical theme created by MISPS decoration chairperson, Andy Battaglia.
The customary twin wine bars, staffed by MISPS pastcommanders, will flank the silent auction tables located front and center of the elevated stage. Cold beer, and a variety of soft drinks and water will also be available.
Gene Burson, chairperson of the event, reports that prizes and gift certificates from restaurants and services are accumulating at a steady pace including a three-month full membership at the Marco Island Yacht Club, a free dental examination including x-rays and cleaning from Dr. Rick Seigel and many home furnishings donated by Shell Lighting. There are lots of fabulous items to bid on at the silent auction; raffle tickets will be available for chances to win items donated by members, local restaurants, merchants and other businesses.
As they begin their 39th year of service to the community, the members of the Marco Island Sail & Power Squadron look forward to another successful, fun-filled evening that will allow them to continue their support of knowledgeable and safe boating practices.
