The beaches on Marco Island will be packed with residents and tourists alike on the Fourth of July. They will come by foot, by car and by boat. Thanks to a group of hardworking volunteers, Marco Island will have a spectacular Independence Day celebration. The Fireworks Fund Committee consisting of Sandi Reidemann, Keith Dameron and Joey Oliverio, was pleased to announce to City Council they met their goal for this year’s sky spectacular. The committee presented City Council with $21,000 covering half of the $42,000 approximate cost. A donation from the Marco Island Civic Association (MICA) put the committee over its goal. The largest single donation to secure the fireworks came from Sam Balsamo who reached out to the committee through his realtor, Stefan Bolson. He offered the use of the 13,500 sq. ft. penthouse at the luxurious Belize in Cape Marco for a fundraiser. The success of the event netted one third of their target, $7000. The committee also contacted Scott Campbell, CEO of Physicians Regional Healthcare Systems to ask if they would donate $3,000 to the fund. Physicians Regional quickly met the request. “Lots of individuals and businesses rallied to help financially, too many to list. Almost everyone wants Marco Island to have their own fireworks display as part of our July 4th holiday. For me, there is something special about enjoying fireworks where you live versus driving to another city,” explained Keith Dameron.

According to Jada Shigley, Director of Reservations for the Marco Island Marriott Resort, Golf Club and Spa, “If a holiday falls midweek, we see tremendous demand. We are projecting a sell-out for this coming Fourth of July holiday weekend.”

MICA will hold its annual Fourth of July celebration at Resident’s Beach with plenty of music, good food and fun activities. The fireworks are set off from barges adjacent to Resident’s Beach offering prime viewing from anywhere along beach.

Keith added, “Committee members have agreed to continue working as an ad hoc committee to secure funding for future Fourth of July celebrations, if the City Council will match the funds we raise up to the amount needed.”
