Everglades City Round-Up

By Pat Newman

Mention “Everglades City” to any Floridian, and their immediate comeback will be “Seafood Festival.”

This weekend, the small fishing community will host its famously-popular Seafood Festival, now entering its fourth decade. According to local historian Marya Repko, the first event was staged as a fundraiser to buy playground equipment for McLeod Park. Since that modest event, the festival has grown to enormous proportions. While fresh seafood is the major draw, there is also music, amusement rides and brew.

In addition to local talent, Nashville headliners Craig Campbell and “OUTSHYNE” will perform. Also on the bill is the German band “The Watching,” whose lead singer and song writer Nicholas Adkins’ father is a local face in Everglades City.

The Seafood Festival opens Friday night (Feb. 6) with Family Night, a no-beer evening. Starting at 5:30 PM, performers will include Charlie Pace, Kirstin Patt, Lost Rodeo, Let’s Hang On, Jimmy Van Zant and Tim Elliott. On Saturday (Feb. 7), opening ceremonies will be held at 10 AM, and taking the stage will be The Dance Company, Ben Allen Band, The Watching, Them Hamilton Boys, Rachel Johnson, Craig Campbell, Tim Elliott, Connor Belvin and The Watching winding down the evening.
