Everglades Barbershop Chorus To Offer Musical Time Travel To a 1939 Live Radio Broadcast

“Radio Daze”, a re-creation of a live radio program from 1939, featuring Naples’ own Barbershop Chorus of the Everglades, will be presented on Saturday, March 3, at Naples High School Auditorium. The broadcast, bundled in nostalgia and offering up a hit parade of songs and stars, can be seen and heard live both at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Attendees will find themselves part of a live audience swept back in time to the same kind of staging utilized by the likes of Jack Benny and the Lone Ranger. And the sounds will echo the grand old songs that filled the airwaves during that time, hits such as “Sweet Georgia Brown”, “Wait ‘til the Sun Shines Nellie” and a toe-tapping George M. Cohan medley that will resurrect some memories and some national pride.

These and many more numbers will be sung by the 30-plus members of the chorus, singers who have been winning hearts with their honey-sweet chords for quite a long time. As a matter of fact, Evergades’ members will bring more than 700 combined years’ experience to the studio audience.

A dazzling combination of supporting acts, harking back to the memorable Major Bowes’ talent shows, will help make for must-see-and-hear “radio.” There will be the music of the locally acclaimed Fackahatchee Funtime Dixieland Band, there will be the close harmony of the “Chairmen of the Chord” quartet and there will be humor, dancing and even some surprises.

Tickets for the trip back in time are $14 apiece. They can be ordered by calling 239-250-0457 and at the door. For directions and parking, check out the group’s web site:
