Florida’s Building Code requires permits for numerous construction tasks. The requirements are standard and stringent to ensure public health, safety and welfare throughout the building industry.

To expedite permitting for customers, Collier County staff developed the first phase of an electronic permitting system that saves citizens’ time and cuts costs.

At, contractors and property owners have access to the newly-created electronic program where they can submit permit requests in 10 areas: residential demolitions; air conditioning replacement; reroofs; shutters, doors and windows; fences; minor electric; solar panel install; gas install; minor plumbing; and well installs.

“Our first phase of e-permitting is live and anyone in the community can access application forms that are accompanied with guidelines. Customers don’t have to leave the confines of their office or home. They just visit our website and all the information is comprehensive from start to finish,” said James French, Director, Operations and Regulatory Management, Growth Management Division (GMD).

E-permitting services are part of the GMD’s goal to improve customer service and provide more convenient ways of doing business, especially in this economy when time translates into financial resources. View the new service here:

French said e-permitting services will be expanded to other areas as digital processes are developed and ready for online accessibility to customers.

“Staff was eager to provide the first user-friendly services to customers – contractors, property owners and all citizens – in Collier County and prove there are ways to obtain some permits efficiently and effectively right now at their fingertips,” said Nick Casalanguida, GMD Administrator.

Permits submitted online are not reviewed until payment has been made and processed. Applicants can expedite the online permitting process further by using the online payment site using MasterCard, Discover or a checking/savings account. Once payment has been made, either online or in person, applicants can pick up their permit when ready, at the permit pickup counter in the front lobby of the GMD, Planning and Regulation, 2800 N. Horseshoe Drive, Naples, Florida 34104.

“We emphasize that you do not begin work until your permit has been issued and the permit package has been posted at the construction site,” added French.
