Here’s an important message worth repeating!

The Marco Island Police Department (MIPD) offers a medication disposal service at no cost to help ensure public safety and foster safer communities.

Rid your medicine cabinet of unused, unnecessary or expired prescription medication immediately. Place prescription drugs in the Marco Island Police Department “disposal box.”

Operation Medicine Cabinet began in 1993. According to Scott LeMaster, Director of Programs at Drug Free Collier, the program has successfully removed unwanted prescription medicine across all of Collier County via drop-boxes and collection events.

It’s as easy as putting a letter in the mailbox. There’s no need for assistance and no one is looking over your shoulder. The nearest disposal box is located within the lobby of the Marco Island Police Department. Items placed in the secure container are incinerated and destroyed to protect the environment and your privacy.

Do it now! Review your medical supplies and get rid of anything that isn’t necessary. For whatever remains, always protect your medication and keep them away from children, teens, visitors, and service vendors who enter your home.

Important: Please do not place syringes or needles into the MIPD drop off site. These can be taken to the Marco Island Recycling Center. DO NOT flush medication down the toilet or throw it in the garbage.

The Marco Island Police Department is located at 51 Bald Eagle Drive. Drop off from Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM. The Marco Island Recycling Center is located at 990 Chalmers Drive. Drop off from Tuesday – Saturday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

The drop-off box is located right inside the front entrance of the MIPD.
