Discover Tigertail

There is only one place you need to be Saturday morning February 20th- and that place is Tigertail Beach. From 9 AM to noon, the Friends of Tigertail Beach will present their sixth Discover Tigertail event, which is free to all.

Whether you go to Tigertail Beach frequently, or have never visited, you will be surprised at the information you will learn while having a fun morning.

Specialists from Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Center, Conservancy of Southwest Florida, Marco Shell Club, and others will be present. Interactive information stations will be set up at the park and around the lagoon area for both adults and children. Visitors can take part in seining creatures from the lagoon and learning about loggerhead turtles, as well as gopher tortoises and manatees. At one of the stations, wildlife will be spotted with a scope. Come and hear about wildlife rehabilitation, plant life, seashells and more.

This year the Tommie Barfield Elementary Parent Teacher’s Organization is a contributing sponsor. They will have a walk/run fitness activity for children. In addition to the popular scavenger hunt “Question Quest,” there will be a bingo game and other activities.

Collier County residents park free with a beach sticker, which can be obtained at any Collier County Public Library.

The Friends of Tigertail Beach is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and protect this special area on Marco Island. Visit their web site at and their Facebook page: tigertailbeach.
