Democratic Women’s Club of Marco

Brittnay Jenkins, Jane Schlechtweg and Mily Cancio asked for volunteers to get out the vote.

The Democratic Women’s Club of Marco (DWCM) recently met at the new community center at Mackle Park. Energy was high as the November midterm election approaches.

Since its formation in January 2016, this enthusiastic group has continued to thrive. Members continue to support Democratic candidates on the November ballot, including DWCM founding member Sara McFadden. McFadden has gained state and national endorsements in her bid for Florida State Representative District 106, which includes Naples and Marco Island.

In addition to McFadden, many other candidates and leaders have addressed the DWCM, including David Holden, Democratic Candidate for U.S. Congress, District 19; Kathy Ryan, School Board member and candidate; Mike Murphy, Marco Island Fire Chief; and Kathy Mayo, National Organization for Women, Fort Myers Chapter President.

Guest speaker Mily Cancio, Collier County Democratic Party Volunteer Coordinator, offered volunteer training opportunities at Collier County Democratic Headquarters in Naples, for poll watchers and greeters, phone banking, and canvassing door-to-door.

Guest speaker and Florida Democratic Field Organizer, Brittnay Jenkins asked for everyone’s help to elect a new slate of Democrats, including State Senate candidate, Anissa Karim (DWCM’s October speaker), Senator Bill Nelson for U.S. Senate and Andrew Gillum for Florida Governor.

Dawn Rubin’s PowerPoint presentation explained in living color all eight contests (sixteen candidates) on the midterm ballot, as well as the thirteen complicated amendments. These voters will be well prepared for this important election on November 6.

The DWCM meets monthly on the second Tuesday from 5-6:30 PM. October’s meeting will be held at the Mackle Park Community Center.
