The Marco Island Center for the Arts is proud to bring back the popular Cuban born tenor Anibal Cruz on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 5:30 – 7 PM

This remarkable singer with perfect pitch and an easy smile will perform salsa-flavored songs, Latin favorites and even Frank Sinatra selections. Concert pianist and outstanding musician Jorge Emilio Pis-Rodriguez will be joining Anibal Cruz for this evening interlude of wonderful music. Jorge Emilio has won numerous awards and his extensive repertoire encompasses diverse music genres.

Anibal Cruz was trained as a physician and worked for 14 years as a gynecologist in Cuba. He and his wife, Enely, also a medical doctor, each made the equivalent of $19 U.S. dollars a month. They could not afford a refrigerator or a television set.

He had loved music since he was a child but preferred to be a doctor. The economic

situation in Cuba forced him to start singing again. He had grown up in a musical family so, turning to singing made financial sense. He was able to appear in Cuban television programs, recorded songs with notable interpreters, and earned numerous music awards.

Cruz landed a job singing in a Cuban tourist resort making $300 a month in tips. This led him to a long-term contract at a hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Over the next seven years, he was able to bring his family to Mexico, including his parents.

With all the family finally together, Cruz proposed that they all immigrate to America. He said “We came here looking for a better future, especially for my children, my future grandchildren.” Cruz and his family first moved to Arkansas and now he and his wife reside in Miami.

His son, Anibal Cruz III, is a classically trained pianist who studies at the famous Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. The musical tradition in the family continues, now in America.

The concert will take place on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 5:30 – 7 PM in the Art Center. The ticket price is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Call the Art Center at 239-394-4221 or visit the website at This will be a sold-out performance! Buy your tickets early. His concert in 2017 was standing room only.
