Visitation to Collier County’s Paradise Coast rose 9.9% in June 2011 over June 2010, the fifth straight month of year-over-year increases. Those visitors also spent more. Direct spending by 115,800 visitors in June totaled $60,304,000, an 11.1% increase over the previous June.
The Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau’s preliminary June report shows increased visitation from all of the area’s key feeder markets. Canada showed the most growth, with a 27% increase, followed by the Northeast with a 15.5% increase and Europe, with an increase of 14.8%.
“Our Paradise Coast spring/summer destination marketing campaign has proven to be very effective this year,” Said Jack Wert, executive director of the Naples Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We’re glad to see that visitors are responding to our messages in the marketplace and making the decision to travel.”
Monthly visitation has been up over the previous year in every month except January, which saw a slight drop of 1.7%. Monthly visitation increased 4.3% in February, 6.4% in March, 3.7% in April, 7.5% in May and 9.9% in June. According to the industry’s leading activity indicator, the three-month forward-looking reservation gauge, strong numbers should continue for the remainder of the summer season. Forty-point-five percent of properties report that reservations are up over the previous year, 13.5 indicate they are the same and 32.4% report they are down.
Some local hotels are reporting that July visitation continues to be strong. “Our business is up double digits this summer from both international and domestic travelers, and our visitation from Floridians is booming,” said Cathy Christopher, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Inn on Fifth.
