If you enjoy history then you’ll enjoy a fashion show of wedding gowns from 1894 to present day at the Marco Island Historical Museum on Monday, March 12th at 2:00PM. $15 tickets are available at the gift shop. Wedding cake and punch will be served. Monday, March 19th from 1:30 to 3:00PM will be a portrayal of “Jackie O”, featuring little known facts of her childhood and her behind the scenes life to her death, portrayed by Bonnie Bozzo. Tickets are $6. The show starts at 1:30PM.

The folks at Eagle Creek attended in full force a meeting held by the County Transportation Department and the FDOT regarding the intersection improvements to U.S. 41/951, and specifically the wall that has been proposed to abate traffic noise that is expected to increase along that corridor. The state had proposed a noise-abatement wall 21 feet tall. The Eagle Creek residents appreciated the effort to reduce the noise, but felt that a 21 foot wall would feel more like a prison cell than a noise abatement wall. They discussed other options which seemed a little more pleasing yet accomplishing the same result. Finally it was decided that they would all meet and discuss other options while trying to retain the beautiful entrance they now enjoy. The State agreed to hold off temporarily, until the discussions took place. I asked to be included in the discussions so that I may carry the banner for Eagle Creek, and was invited to participate. I think they’ll find an answer that is agreeable to all.

You always have a good time on Goodland! This past weekend they held another Sausage and Pancake Breakfast and it was ever so tasty! As always, the friendship abounded, the conversation never ended. For $5 per person you couldn’t get a better deal, plus there were raffle prizes, thanks to Marker 8, Stan’s, Island Woman, Old Marco Lodge, Little Bar, Calusa Island Marina, Breakwater Kayak, Tide Trackers (who make a darling clock with a shell in the middle that will track the tides) and Sea Tow. Next Saturday, March 10th, is Goodland’s Birthday Party event (it’s their 63rd birthday) which will feature Marco Sportfishing Club offering seminars and clinics for young people and a fishing contest for kids, plus exhibits. Food by Marker 8 will be on hand. You will also see Fish Art, Crab Races, Cake Decorating for the young people, and at 11:00 AM, a Pet Parade. There will be live music by Terry Lee and Friends.

Every Friday in March is a Fish Fry at San Marco Catholic Church. It’s just like the old days when we grew up and every Friday the whole family went out for a Fish Fry. Joe Granda and Dick Shanahan, along with Father Tim, said everyone is welcome, so……………I’ll see you there!

A little note to tell you that Kathleen Reynolds is again weaving her magic as the Daughters of Erin present their 4th Annual “Marco Ireland” Parade on Sunday, March 11th at 1:00PM. It’s the place to be. Our own Dick Shanahan will be the Grand Marshal! They couldn’t have chosen a better Irishman! See you there!
