Wow. Well, I guess that’s it for us, Jim. Sad to know that you (and presumably Litha — whom I supported for City Council) have succumbed to the toxic sewer-rat faction on Marco that wants to end any semblance of “normal” government. If you’re a student of history, you know that this never ends well.
The sewer rats drown.
You are on the wrong side of history here, Jim. Sad to see, with your stunning, courageous, and exemplary service in Vietnam. You fought at Ia Drang in 1965 as I recall. I remember in jump school — with Bill Moss and John Sorey in Naples!! (“Small World, Exhibit A”) — thinking holy crap, can you imagine being in Ia Drang. You, Sir, will always be “above me.”
Even though we are now no longer friends, I admire your courage, and of course I was never tested as you were. In many ways, I am not worthy.
But on the City of Marco Island, respectfully I believe I have a better command of the battlefield. Our Acting City Manager has indicated he does not want the job. So we have said to him, “Tough shit, you have it for another year.” This is not right, Jim. Gil is a fine man, as I have said publicly. He is absolutely not a city manager. We can discuss this over coffee if you like.
This wonderful city is spiraling out of control because people like you — important, brave, smart, caring citizens — are more concerned with their political alignments than with the future of our community. You care more about yourself and your “friends” than you care about Marco Island.
Blunt talk from an Army Captain, who never, ever confronted the hell you confronted in Vietnam. Unwavering respect for your courage. But profound disagreement on this matter, and disappointment in your cowardice to confront the evil that is obviously before us.
Kind regards, and regards as well to Litha, a classy woman clearly above your pay grade.

Larry, your statement that we are “sadly misinformed” & suggest we might be influenced by some news publication that YOU referred to as : a rag, fake, lying email scam is insulting. you then made reference to another publications article that reflected on Mr. McMullan negatively & stated you did not know if it was true or not. Why would you make such a stupid, careless remark?
Let me assure you, we are well informed beyond any scope of your imagination or knowledge regarding this embarrassing series of events that have placed our city in such negative light.
You made a statement @ the meeting last night that was correct; we do think you are a JERK !
