After mourning the death of a spouse, a single mother of four boys finds that keeping busy helps. It is acts of generosity like the one of a local law firm that made a dream, a reality, for this family. This will be the fourth annual “For the Family Award” gifted from the kindness of William G. Morris and his law firm.

As the firm celebrated its 30th year back in 2013, William G. Morris and partners decided rather than spending money on festivities, that they would allocate the proceeds collected toward a greater cause. After careful consideration between vacation packages, cruise deals and other experience gifts, the firm decided on the most magical place on earth being the award destination for the families. Thus, the birth of a program that aims to bring happiness to a family going through tough times.

Mr. Morris comes from a large family and he recalls his vacations fondly. Disney World is the place where happiness is experienced and memories are created. With gratitude for the local community, Morris’ law firm wanted to return the favor to the community for keeping them in business for over three decades. Keeping the theme of family, Samantha Morris, Mr. Morris’ daughter, has been involved with the award since its beginnings. Applicants are considered after a screening process and donations from the firm goes to the most compelling applicant after the office reads through nominations.

Jessica Reigner, the mother of four, finds herself in awe of the gathered efforts to fund an expensive trip for a large family. “They allow food inside the parks now, what’s great is that we can save our money from purchasing food to spend it on keepsakes.” What stood out about this year’s winners is that she has four boys, ages 6 through 12, all two years apart.

The trip includes a three-day

park admission ticket, with a two-night stay at a hotel. In the past, the dates were selected when purchasing the tickets. This year, the law firm will be handing a pre-paid Visa card to allow the family to select the dates that work best for them. This saves the hassle of planning and confirming with the family before the award is handed to them and allowing the freedom to have a vacation when the family can go without worrying.

The award was selected in early January. It is a long process to set up the vacation, especially with all the paperwork involved. Despite the technicalities it takes to create such a trip, the people involved are motivated in creating an opportunity for a family to reflect on the important things in life. The award was officially handed to the family on Tuesday afternoon, February 21.

One of the three founders of The Marco Island Theatre Company, Pat Berry, reached out to help in purchasing the last ticket for the family. The father used to be involved with the theater group – which is how Berry originally came to know of the family. This fifth ticket was kept a surprise until the moment the tickets were awarded. Typically, the award includes four tickets to the Disney World parks so the firm was in a predicament as to how to select a family of five altogether. Mr. Morris and Ms. Berry did not want to leave out on giving such a generous award to the mom. This is a time to unite a family and give them the best experience they can possibly wish for.
