Who says there’s an age limit when it comes to chalk art? The Marco Island Center for the Arts (MICArts) held its third Annual Chalk Art for the Young at Heart event on Saturday, January 28, 2017. The event was free to the public and everyone was welcome. The community gathered on a beautiful sunny afternoon without a cloud in the sky. This was an excellent family event for people of all ages.

The center provided the chalk and materials so all guests attending had the opportunity to get in touch with their creative side. The set-up was simple: sign in, get your chalk or powder-paint (for easy clean-up), get assigned a drawing area and get creative! Whether a doodler, artist, or an observer, guests could create a masterpiece right on the MICArts parking lot. After painters finished their masterpiece they would get a photo next to their drawing and have a chance to spin a wheel for prizes! There was a selection from toys, pencils, cups, and more surprises.

MICArts has hosted this event for its third run and attendance is growing every year. Guests range from children and even groups of adults (who are young at heart) joining the crowd.

This February it will also mark three years for Executive Director Hyla Crane being involved with the center. Since starting at MICArts, Crane has hit the ground running by involving herself in the community and promoting all the center’s fantastic contributions to inspiring the arts.

“The goal is being resourceful with our local community and providing more family-friendly events.” Crane mentioned. “It is important to stop the rush of life occasionally, and attend an open and friendly environment promoting togetherness.” To witness little artists and young ones at heart create from an empty canvas on the street, to a work of art is quite remarkable.
