Guitars, Repair and Service

“Show Your Axe”

One of Marco Island’s most interesting destination points is Bob and Kathy Duffy’s shop, Guitars, Repair & Service, virtually a musical museum. Bob Duffy, a cabinet maker by trade, has, for 40 plus years, built and restored vintage and antique guitars.

Bob opened the shop 5 years ago and during that time his inventory and the reputation regarding his talent has grown. He has on display antique guitars dating back to the 1800’s. He also has antique and vintage guitars and accessories including pre-owned refurbished instruments for sale. Guitar lessons are taught by Lee Brovitz.

On Tuesday nights at the Little Bar in Goodland, Bob hosts Open Mic Night. Kathy has allotted her space, in the back of the shop. Kathy’s Kool Stuff is a potpourri of vintage clothes, accessories, furniture and jewelry. Bob (also of the Mullet Brothers musical duet fame) and Kathy, can be reached at 642-0354 and their fascinating store is located at 1165 Bald Eagle Dr.

Wanting to give back and thank the Kiwanis and a desire to give back to the community, Melissa is selling $2 raffle tickets at Skin Renewal Systems, Walker’s Coon Key Marina, Cloe’s at the Esplanade, Harbor Goldsmith at Marco Walk, In the Light Gallery at the Shops in Olde Marco, and on Wednesdays, at the Farmer’s Market. Winner of the raffle will receive a Keritan complex smoothing hair treatment worth $350.00.

Although the toys will be distributed December 15 at Manatee Middle School, the raffle will continue to December 20 and the drawing will be held December 22. All monies brought in after the 15th will be saved for Christmas Toys for Kids next year.

Rich Jones Electric, Inc.

“Nice People Working for Nice People”

Rich Jones came ashore in 1992 having worked for years aboard commercial vessels and having operated a yacht delivery and charter business. Rich says, “I picked up

a lot of electrical know-how aboard ships contracted to MSTS [Military Sea Transport Service] so when I swallowed the anchor I knew what I wanted to do ashore”. He enrolled in electrical school and embarked on learning the trade. “I worked for just about every company on Marco Island because I wanted a broad range of experience.” It was during this time that Rich realized that there was a niche that could be filled in electrical service. Although the electrical companies he worked for provided highly competent service, it seemed the quality of simply being nice to the customer was missing. So when he got his electrical contractor’s license in 1999 he, his wife Glenna and his brother Doug started a company, Rich Jones Electric, with the motto “Nice People working for Nice People”. Rich says “that simple philosophy has made us into one of the most successful companies in the area. We care about our customers and they care about us…it’s very gratifying.”

Rich Jones Electric is located at 761 East Elkcam Circle. Call 394-5985 or go to for more information.
