Business Brief: Dry Clean and More



Mustafa Aslan, his lovely wife, Hitay, are originally from Turkey. Their family business, Dry Clean and More on Marco Island, is celebrating its 24th year of service to this community. What is the key to a long-standing success for a business such as Dry Clean and More? According to Mustafa, “If you’re going to do a job, do it well!”

Dry Clean and More started next to Publix. The original owner found himself in some financial difficulties with the IRS and eventually Mustafa bought the business in 1990. He’s continually built a long list of loyal clientele ever since. “Many cleaners on the island have come and gone. They change hands quickly. Some I’ve mentored, they got their start and their knowledge of this industry from working with me. There really isn’t any competition because we’ve kept all of our business local, we don’t transport the laundry off island to be cleaned. We have a cleaning plant in the Industrial Business Park near the Sheriff’s substation on Barfield Drive. Working locally has kept our service on top.

In 2007, Dry Clean and More made a move from the Shops of Marco to a location behind the Marathon gas station on the corner of San Marco and Barfield. “It was a great decision. We remodeled, brought in new accoutrements. We’ve added a full-time tailor, Maria Svancara, and we now have ample parking! If we see someone pull in who needs assistance, we



can help with curbside service. All they have to do is pull up at the front door. This location has an easy in and easy out.”

Providing great customer service is a standard principle of Dry Clean and More. They also complimentary offer valet service to all of Marco Island’s surrounding communities; Fiddler’s Creek, Hammock Bay, Goodland, Port of the Islands and Capri. “We come to your home, take down the drapes, clean them, and we return to hang them up,” Mustafa explains.

It is a family business with Mustafa’s wife doing some tailoring work and his son, Berkin, assisting with pick-up and delivery services for the commercial side of the business as well as handling the technical aspect of their electronic business systems. However, Berkin has plans to attend law school soon. Ceren, the Aslan’s daughter works at the Marriott. Mustafa particularly enjoys spending time with his four year old grandson, Bora. “He doesn’t look at me like a grandfather, he looks at me as his best friend,” chides Mustafa.

Mustafa feels that way about his customers. “We have known each other for many years! We know each other well. We love Marco and feel as though we grew up here along with our customers, our friends. Our regular customers know the Dry Clean and More drill, the first thing we ask all customers when they come in, “When do you need it?” (They can do it in an hour if you wish!)
