Building Permit Increase


Collier County’s Growth Management Department has seen a 46 percent increase in building permit applications between June 2014 and June 2015, according to the county’s latest figures. The county also had a nearly 19 percent increase in permit applications between May 2015 and June 2015, an increase of 816 permits.

Collier County saw 4,303 permits applied for in June 2015, an increase of 1,362 permits from the 2,941 permits applied for in June 2014. Those 4,303 permits represent a 109 percent increase from the 2,057 permits applied for in June 2013.

There were 311 permits issued for new construction in June, up 13.5 percent or 37 permits, from the 274 permits issued in May. The 311 permits issued in June was a 5.7 percent increase from the 294 permits issued in June 2014, a 5.7 percent increase.

Of those 311 permits, 297 were for one and two family homes, 11 were for multifamily homes and three were for commercial.

The county also saw an increase in building inspections, with Collier County staff performing 17,628 inspections in June 2015, a 9.5 percent increase from the 16,090 performed in May 2015, and an almost 40 percent increase from the 12,621 building inspections performed in June 2014. The county also performed 869 land development reviews in June.

“These numbers show that growth is not slowing down in Collier County,” said Jamie French, deputy department head, Collier County Growth Management Department. “But our staff is working hard to ensure that permits and inspections are done in a timely manner.”
