Boys & Girls Club of Collier County Celebrate the 2015 Paragon Awards

On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County held the first annual Paragon Awards at the Naples Botanical Gardens. This awards luncheon celebrated and honored seven community supporters who demonstrated the greatest dedication and impact as advocates for the Boys & Girls Club Movement.

Boys & Girls Club President and CEO, Theresa J. Shaw, presented the 2015 Paragon Awards to: Timothy Ubben, Legacy Award; Mary & Thomas Lear, Volunteer Award; Kingman Webster, Education Ambassador Award accepted in memoriam, by his wife, Dee Webster; Lisa Akita-Cannon of ACT-SO, Minority Leader Award; Naples Children’s Education Foundation (NCEF), Community Partner Award; Representative Kathleen Passidomo, Government Champion Award; and JCPenney, Business Partner Award.


Special Guest Speaker, Jim Caufield, of the Boys & Girls Club of America, inspired the audience recalling his early beginnings with the Boys & Girls Club as an impressionable six year old in Oakland, California. As a childhood Club member, he was the recipient of a Boys Club scholarship to San Francisco State University and began his professional career in 1965 in Santa Barbara, California. Caufield was the Executive Director of the Oceanside, California Club for 15 years before joining the national staff in 1981. He was inducted into the Boys & Girls Club National Hall of Fame in 2006 and retired this year having served the Movement for over 50 years.

Boys & Girls Club of Collier County Club Member, Jason Francoeur, shared his personal story on how the Boys & Girls Club has helped his development, confidence, academic success through thoughtful mentorship and guidance from BGCCC staff, volunteers and mentors.


The Boys & Girls Club of Collier County (BGCCC) is a non-profit, youth development organization, which annually serves 3,000 of the most at-risk children and teens in Collier County. The Club provides a safe, positive place where local youth can acquire: academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.
