Boat Crash

On Sunday, July 17, 2016, the Marco Island Police Department (MIPD) was dispatched to 909 Collier Court, the scene of a boat crash with injuries. On arrival, police officers performed first aid, and assisted Marco Island Fire Rescue and Collier County EMS personnel.

MIPD’s initial investigation determined that the incident took place in the vicinity of Caxambas Pass, on the southern end of Marco Island. Allegedly, Andrew M. Derwin was operating the 23-foot boat with twenty-eight year old Nicolas Stolinas as a passenger. Nicolas suffered serious injuries from contact with the boat’s propeller.

On July 19th, 2016, Andrew M. Derwin, a 26-year-old Marco Island resident, was charged with grand theft, a second degree felony, after the MIPD determined that the vessel he was operating during the incident had been stolen.

The matter is still under investigation.
