Baskets of Hope for Lupus Foundation

One hundred thirty-four friends and supporters dressed in purple and gathered together at Treviso Bay to help raise awareness and funds for the Lupus Foundation.

This first-time fundraising event was organized by Jan Cirillo of Marco Island, who has systemic lupus. Lupus is an unpredictable autoimmune disease that can affect any organ in the body at any time.

This fun event, which included a lovely luncheon and a fashion show from OMG of Marco Island, raised $10,000. All the models were ladies from the support group who have lupus. Thirty-five donated gift baskets were raffled off during the fundraiser and there was a silent auction. Pretty basket favors were given out for everyone to take home.

The event was a big success, which Jan credits to all of her friends who made and donated baskets, local businesses, and especially event sponsor, Skip Watson. Also, a big thanks to Kathy Miracco, JoAnn Brandau and Lynn Nathanson.

Jan Cirillo started the Southwest Florida Lupus Support Group six years ago, which meets monthly on the third Saturday at Physician’s Regional on Collier Boulevard.
