The 2019 Decorating Committee recently met at the Esplanade to celebrate Christmas in July and prepared for the 2019 decorating contest. Committee Co-Chairs, Dave and Jeanne Rice announced the schedule for this year’s event. The contest begins with the Preliminary Judging beginning December 9 and 10 from 6:30 PM to 9 PM. For the house decorating contest, the Island is divided into nine zones and judging teams select the top contenders by visiting every street on the island. For the business contest, the island is divided in half and judged by all exterior decorations.
The top 10 decorated homes are determined on December 11 from 6 to 9 PM. The Finals are on December 13 with the judges traveling to the top 10 homes via Santa’s Christmas Bus. The traditional parade of cars for those wishing an early preview of the top contenders meet in the vicinity of Iberia Bank. The judges leave from the Iberia Bank parking area at 6:30 PM for those that with to join in the parade.
Said Rice, “We expect to judge over 2,000 homes and some 200+ businesses this year as the community ‘Lights Up For Christmas.’”
