What Andy Delgado finds most fulfilling about home building has nothing at all to do with the actual construction process. Instead, Delgado, of Andrew Hunter Homes on Marco Island, gains his greatest satisfaction after a home is built and the move-in has occurred.
“What I find most rewarding after the build is running into a client at the supermarket and hearing the client tell me how much they love their new home and how wonderful my staff continues to treat them,” he said.
Established in 2009, the company prides itself on “building affordable luxury” for its customers.
“Many times, people believe that luxury comes without affordability and vice-versa,” it is stated on the company website. “That is why we pride ourselves on offering both, with exceptional service as well. Andrew Hunter Homes makes it possible to live in this amazing place, in the home of your dreams, at prices that work for you.”
The company designs and builds personal pieces of paradise with passion and beautiful finishes that will make customers proud for years to come.
Delgado said the company tosses everything and the kitchen sink into its homes. “Site preparation, underground foundation work, steel and concrete application, trusses, exterior framing, interior framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall, flooring, cabinets, trim, paint, granite, fixtures, swimming pool, landscaping, pavers and of course a very proud homeowner,” he added.
There are several areas of distinction that set Andrew Hunter Homes apart from other builders on the island, said Delgado.
“What makes me different from other builders and the reason why someone should pick us to build their home is the personalized service, from planning and design, to a building matrix, personalized assigned project managers and step-by-step updates and information weekly,” he explained. “We send all of our client’s weekly emails with photos of the progress of their home.”
That customer-service focus approached has served Andrew Hunter Homes well. The company was awarded “Gulfshore Life” Magazine’s 2014 Five Star Real Estate Agents award for the outstanding service and client satisfaction.
As Delgado put it, “Our relationship with our clients does not end when the house is built. They become part of the Andrew Hunter Homes family.”
Andrew Hunter is not limited to just building luxury homes. The company also offers an array of other services, including bathroom and kitchen remodeling, sunrooms, and interior painting.
Raised in Jacksonville, Delgado received a degree in Public Administration from Barry University. He is a retired policeman, having spent 18 years with theMiami-Dade police force and seven with the Marco Island P.D. He later became a realtor with Premiere Plus Realty on Marco, before getting his residential contractors’ license and starting Andrew Hunter Homes with his wife, Ivette.
The couple has four children: Andrew, Hunter, Ashley and Jordan; and Delgado is also well known on the island for coaching youth sports.
Delgado’s time as a realtor helped lead to the change in careers.
“Back in the (real estate) decline of six years ago, a client couldn’t find the right home so we decided to build one,” said Delgado. “He was so impressed with our efficiency and workmanship that we decided to build a model. He since then started working with me and as of today, he is still with me.”
Entering the home-building field when market conditions are depressed might seem counterintuitive. But Delgado said Andrew Hunter Homes maintained a solid footing by “building for the economy.”
Delgado credited his wife and his mother with serving as his primary business mentors.
When asked what advice he would offer to someone considering becoming a home builder, he offered up time-tested wisdom that has value no matter the profession: “work hard, be diligent and treat customers and employees with the utmost respect.”
