Adopt-A- Thon Finds Homes for 45 Pets

Recently, Collier County Domestic Animal Services (DAS) held a 33-hour Adopt-A-Thon and found homes for 45 homeless animals.

Twenty dogs, 21 cats and four mice found their forever homes during the event. That’s more than half the dogs in the adoption kennel. Three cats waiting for homes for more than a year were among the 21 adopted during the event.

Adoption prices were reduced considerably during the event. Dogs could be adopted for $30 ($55 off the usual $85 adoption fee) and cats could be adopted for $20 ($40 off the usual $60 adoption fee). Animals are older than 7 or who had been in the shelter for more than seven months could be adopted for free.

“The long hours and hard work of staff and volunteers paid off with the success of this event,” said DAS Director Darcy Andrade. “Although there are many more animals that need to find their forever homes, 45 animals placed into homes is huge,” added Andrade.
