Vacationers visit Marco Island to escape the cold weather, but often can’t escape the dreaded cold or flu. When this happens, where do they turn? Naples Community Healthcare Systems offers an Urgent Care Center on Marco Island to visitors, part-time and full-time residents of Marco in need of treatment of non-emergencies, illness and minor injuries.
For over 20 years, NCH Healthcare Systems has provided Marco Island with quality urgent care services. Located centrally at 40 Heathwood Drive, NCH Urgent Care of Marco Island is “open 365 days per year – even holidays,” states Diann Chairge, Director of Nursing for the Urgent Care facility. From 8:00 AM until 7:30 PM every day, patients are treated by board-certified physicians, registered nurses and licensed clinical professionals.
On a mission to heal and educate, Marco Urgent Care Center has recently released a new flyer to local hotels, pharmacies and businesses, describing the type of care the center offers. “We would like patientsto come see us for basic, non-emergent medical/trauma conditions,” explains Chairge. Reasons to choose Marco Urgent Care include: mild asthma, animal and insect bites or stings, cold and flu symptoms, eye redness and irritation, headaches, minor lacerations, nose bleeds, fever, sore throat, sports injuries, urinary infections and vomiting or diarrhea.
The flyer also addresses when to call 911 versus when to come to the Urgent Care Center. Stroke symptoms such as facial droop, arm or leg weakness or slurred speech, chest pain or difficulty breathing, medication or chemical ingestion, near drownings, seizures, severe bleeding, severe eye injuries and loss of consciousness should all be handled by dialing 911. If a patient does show up at Marco Urgent Care with any of these symptoms, they will be transported to the hospital of their choice.
“We accept all patients,” continues Chairge. “We are also now affiliated with the Mayo Care Network which is great because many of our patients are from out of town and already deal with Mayo Care Physicians. We are the first in SouthwestFlorida to have this affiliation.”
In case an emergency situation does arise at Marco Urgent Care, patients can rest assured as the center is located directly across the street from the Marco Island Fire Rescue Department. “We definitely utilize the team across the street and we have a great working relationship with them.
“We also have a network of over 80 volunteers just for this center. They help us in hospitality, clerical, cleaning and nursing.” Every year, the volunteers host a fashion show to raise money for new medical equipment. This year’s fashion show will be held on March 5. Volunteers are also instrumental in the annual Kiwanis Car Show held in the parking lot every February. “Our volunteers are the epitome of what we are. I have the highest admiration for them. They are wonderful,” states Chairge.
A full lab, radiology department and an extensive knowledge of the NCH Healthcare System throughout Collier County add to the A-1 service patients have come to expect after 20 years of healthcare service.
