“Music on the Mound History in the Making” at The Marco Island Historical Museum, 180 South Heathwood Drive

Museum Hours: Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4pm

Don’t miss this unique event at the Marco Island Historical Museum and Rose Auditorium. Come and join the official “ribbon cutting” ceremony for the museum, then enjoy a grilled lunch on the mound with beer and wine (nominal fee for food & drinks) featuring meats from the famous Rose Packing, while enjoying Music on the Mound with J Robert and Friends.

For the children, come and join the pottery making demonstration in the Calusa style and don’t miss the Tommy Barfield’s winning Calusa Dioramas with the winners giving explanations of their works!   Then catch a glimpse of Bert Gillespie demonstrating the Calusa Indian techniques for stone and shell tools, various basket forms, making rope from plant fibers and making fire using a bow outside on the mound. Carolyn Burger, Portside Studio Artist in Residence, will paint your face like a Calusa Indian Mask!

After seeing the “History in the Making” demonstrations you won’t want to miss the special live animal presentations from the “Gator Man” and the Calusa Nature Center featuring indigenous Everglades animals like gators and non indigenous animals invading our glades such as the African Python and many other species on site.  Finally, take this opportunity to tour the entire museum facility where you will be able to view World Famous photography from Clyde Butcher and artwork of the “Lost Tribes of Florida” by Theodore Morris and much more. Please join us for the historic occasion of the Ribbon Cutting at the new museum. Hope to see you there!!
