A Taste of Quality at Verdi’s American Bistro

It is said that people will always make a return visit when they enjoy the dining experience. A recent visit to Verdi’s reminded us of why we kept returning. 

Vince Rodriguez, Verdi’s owner bought the restaurant from Guy and Lisa Verdi in 2010. Guy and Lisa Verdi started Verdi’s back in 1988. Guy was an executive chef and opened a couple of local restaurants, Philly Grill and LaTavola. Vince continued the tradition of serving high-quality food and a good dining experience.

The original Verdi’s menu was also designed by Guy Verdi but has been tweaked many times by Vince and his chefs. According to Vince, what remains consistent is offering the best products that they can get and to try to serve quality food and everything else take care of itself.

Vince has been in the restaurant business since he was 16, starting at a McDonalds and working himself up to manager and now owning his own restaurant.

He was born in Cuba and came to the United States when he was 4. He was with his mother, grandmother and father, and about to leave Cuba for Miami when Castro told his father that he was still of military age. So, he had to go back and fulfill his military obligations and rejoined them several years later.

Verdi’s Executive Chef, George Gomez, has been around the Naples market for about 20 years. He brings with him a long culinary experience, new ideas and fresh eyes to the business. He has added new items on the menu such as Parmesan Scallops and the grilled octopus for an appetizer.

If you were to visit Verdi’s for the first time, Vince would recommend starting with an appetizer such as Wiki Wiki Shrimp, which is a crispy tempura shrimp tossed in a sweet and spicy chili sauce topped with diced tomatoes.

For a salad, he might suggest the Roasted Beets, which are red and golden beets, mandarin orange, red onions, gorgonzola cheese and toasted

almonds in mandarin vinaigrette.

Verdi’s popular entrees include the Chilean Sea Bass, which is pan-seared with hoisin sauce glaze on a bed of sautéed spinach, fingerling potatoes and tomato concasse. Equally as delicious would be the Crispy Duck.

For this visit and others, the Pork Prime Rib is always top on the list. It is served with sautéed apples, mashed potatoes on a bed of sautéed spinach, raspberry and ginger hoisin sauce.

Trying something new, we ordered the Grilled New Zealand Half-Rack of Lamb which was served on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes, green beans and mint demi-glaze. 

According to Vince, the majority of Verdi’s customers are regulars and they’ve lived in Marco for years and always come back. That evening, he had a couple who dines at Verdi’s every Thursday evening.
