MARCO ISLAND CHRISTMAS HOUSE AND BUSINESS DECORATING CONTEST JUDGING DATES ANNOUNCED

Yes, the Christmas Decorating Contest is alive and well for 2020 on Marco Island!!!

Final judging of the House Top Ten finalists will occur with the judges tour on Friday, December 18.

Although COVID-19 concerns have caused cancelation or modification of several Christmas events, the House Decoration festivities lend themselves nicely to social distancing. Because homes and businesses are decorated by families and individuals, both the decorating and viewing phases of the contest can be conducted easily within safe COVID-19 protocol.

This will be the 27th Annual Christmas House Decorating Contest and the 15th Annual Christmas Business Decorating ContestThe Decorating Contests are sponsored by LCEC for the 27th consecutive year. A committee of 30 dedicated community-minded citizens makes it all happen.

This year, the Preliminary Judging will be done on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, December 14, 15, and 16 between 6:30 PM – 10:30 PM each night. Property and Business owners are instructed to have their lights on all three nights to ensure that the judges may view all properties.

The Final Judging is scheduled for Friday, December 18, from 6:30 PM – 10:30 PM. Iberia Bank is a sponsor of the final judging event and provides the IBERIABANK SPIRIT AWARD, a $100 Lowe’s gift certificate for the House Decorating Contest winner.

All owners of the Top 10 Homes receive a plaque. The overall winner receives the coveted yard sign, winner’s plaque, the IberiaBank Gift Certificate and Traveling Trophy to be kept for 1 year by the winners of the House Contest and then passed on to the next years winner.

Businesses are judged on their exterior decorations visible to the public. The winner receives a plaque and Yard Sign on December 19 at a time convenient for the business owners. A separate team of judges view and judge the businesses during the preliminary judging dates. The Business Contest is led by co-chairperson Kristina Lambros and Marc Creach. For the Business Contest, it is appreciated that businesses notify Kristina Lambros at kristina.lambros@gmail.com with the name of the business and address so no business is overlooked.

Previous winners of both home and business contests display their yard sign annually and continue to decorate in the spirit of the season. Top 10 contenders and “Worth Seeing” addresses are supplied to the media so families may visit and enjoy the beauty and originality of the decorated homes and businesses throughout the holiday season.

There were over 1,474 homes decorated in 2019.

Judging teams evaluate every home on every street on Marco. Winners are not eligible to win again for a 5-year period.
