Mrs. Rose was surprised by the presentation in front of nearly 250 people at the Marco Island Historical Museum in the Rose History Auditorium Hall, which was named after Bill and Myrt Rose who personally contributed to its construction.
Linda Sandlin presented the award to Myrt Rose on behalf of the noontime Rotary Club and noted that the club also wished to honor the memory of Bill Rose as together he and Mrs. Rose have personally supported many local causes through their contribution of time, energy and philanthropic support.
The Rose family has been a very important part of the history of Marco Island as long time owners of the Marco River Marina and through their personal involvement in many local organizations.
Myrt Rose will be formally presented with the 2011 Spirit Award at the Rotary Club of Marco Island Third Annual Spirit of Marco Island Gala Awards Dinner and Silent Auction to be held on Friday April 29th at the San Marco Catholic Church Parish Hall.
This gala event will recognize five individuals and organizations that are civically involved in the community through their contribution of time, talent and financial support of local charities. Additional recipients will be announced in the coming weeks.
Last year five individuals and business were recognized with the “Spirit of Marco Island Award”, they were: Joe Granda, Hideaway Beach Association Members, Linda & Alan Sandlin, Donna & Stan Niemcyk and Steve Stefanies.
Each recipient was presented with their award in front of a crowd of nearly 160 persons that included local dignitaries, family, friends and business leaders all of whom enjoyed a buffet dinner with a cash bar, dancing and a silent auction. The proceeds from the silent auction are used to support local charities and college scholarships.
